Question:

I have had receding gums for a few years now. I have been meticulous about brushing and my dentist says my brushing is done very well.  I am now at a stage where my gums have receded quite a lot and I have a few loose teeth. I believe that brushing alone is not enough.  I have read up about some Avurveda remedies. Presently I am using a paste of Tumeric , aloe, white willow bark, vitamin E and powered alum. I am brushing with neem bark and also sometimes with powered alum and salt.

Alex Answers:

Do this mouth-wash / oil retention treatment which is called ‘Shodhana Gandusha’ as well as the other things you are doing:

  • 5-15 ml sesame oil
  • 50 ml hot water
  • ½ teaspoon honey
  • ½ teaspoon of turmeric powder

Hold in mixture with your mouth closed. Do not swallow!

Swish the mixture around from time to time.

Spit out the mixture after 5-10 minutes, or as soon as you start to notice increased saliva secretions, or a secretion starting to come out of the back of your nasal cavity into the throat.

Rinse out your mouth with a little warm water.

Do this X 2 per day for 3 months then 1 X day for life.

Cheers, Alex.
